Pacific Retina Care (sm) is excited to introduce Iluvien! It is FDA approved for Diabetic Macular Edema. It is approved for those who have had corticosteroid injections before and did not suffer from elevated IOP (intraocular pressure) which can cause glaucoma. Iluvien is given by intravitreal injection in the office. The injection is a tiny implant of Fluocinolone acetonide. This corticosteroid is supposed to last THREE years. Other corticosteroids can be administered as often as monthly. So every three years is every appealing. I am noticing that the effect is not always immediate, so we need to be patient and follw up often. Call the office if you have any questions.
