Retinal Detachment (RD) occurs when the retina peels away from its underlying supportive layer.  RD can occur for a variety of reasons, including vitreous detachment, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tumors, and trauma.  Signs of RD include sudden visual disturbances, such as the onset of new floaters and a shower of flashes in your vision.  If you see new floaters or flashes in one eye or the other, you should seek Dr. Tafoya’s (or another retinal specialist’s) help immediately.
