Doctor Tafoya has been invited to speak at an American Diabetes Association meeting this weekend. He will be speaking about ways to avoid or control diabetic eye disease. Did you know that diabetes ranks as the leading cause of new blindness in the US? Did you know that Asians, Pacific Islanders and native Hawaiians are at a higher risk for Type 2 diabetes? Did you know that these groups account for over half of Hawaii’s population? So ,see your primary care doctor on a regular basis; get your eyes check AND dilated regularly; keep your glucose under control; and take good care of YOU!
I am happy to see that the ADA is trying to educate our primary care doctors and staff. They are the front-line to preventing and controlling diabetic eye disease. I have been in a quandary as to what to do for Holiday gifts for referring doctors this year. Who needs candy or cookies? I have been toying with the idea of donating money in honor of each referring doctor. Because I am so grateful to the ADA in their attempt to educate, I have decided to add them to my list. This year Pacific Retina Care will donate funds to the American Diabetes Association and the Hawaii Foodbank. Thank you ADA!
